Bulldogs Downed 4-3 by Marlies in Shootout

Toronto, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Toronto Marlies 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. Max Pacioretty scored his first professional hat trick but it was not enough for the 'Dogs as Jerry D'Amigo ended the shootout in the seventh round to win the game for Toronto.

The Marlies opened the game's scoring at 18:59 of the first frame. Greg Scott intercepted a passing attempt by the Bulldogs before racing in on net for a breakaway. Scott snapped a shot over the glove of Hamilton starting goaltender Robert Mayer and into the net.

Toronto took a 2-0 lead at 3:48 of the second stanza. Darryl Boyce received the puck from Scott before sending a pass to Jay Rosehill, who fired a shot past Mayer.

The Bulldogs cut the lead in half at 8:53 of the middle frame. Ben Maxwell carried the puck down the left side of the ice and into the Marlies' zone before backhanding a pass to Pacioretty, who was positioned in front of the net. Pacioretty one-timed a shot past Toronto starting goaltender Ben Scrivens. Pacioretty added his second goal of the game on the power play at 17:48. David Desharnais intercepted a clearing attempt by the Marlies before sending a pass to Pacioretty, who was positioned at the right side of the net. Pacioretty slapped the puck past Scrivens and into the top of the net.

Pacioretty scored his hat trick goal at 13:53 of the final frame. Pacioretty received the puck from J.T. Wyman before skating behind the net and firing the puck into the back of the net to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead. Desharnais also earned an assist on the goal.

Toronto tied the game 3-3 at 18:56 of the third period. Mike Zigomanis dished the puck to the right side of the net, where Josh Engel blasted a one time shot that sailed over the shoulder of Mayer and into the top of the net.

Neither team was able to score in overtime, which sent the game to a shootout. The shootout went to the seventh round where Jerry D'Amigo scored for the Marlies to win the game. Joey Crabb also scored for Toronto as Robert Mayer stopped five of the seven shooters he faced while Max Pacioretty scored the only goal for Hamilton in the shootout.

The 'Dogs will meet Toronto for the second game of a two-game back-to-back series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum. Tomorrow's game can be seen live on CBC. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. All pre-game shows during 'Dogs home games will be broadcast live from the main concourse at Copps Coliseum.
