Jaxx Win Again On Saturday Against Lookouts

JACKSON, TENN. - Behind a strong pitching performance from Anthony Vasquez, the Diamond Jaxx (71-66) beat Chattanooga (65-72) at Pringles Park Saturday, 5-3. The Jaxx have already clinched a playoff berth, but lead the series now two games to none. Vasquez allowed just one run in six innings and earned his second Jaxx victory. The Jaxx have now won six straight over Chattanooga and lead the season series 13-4.

Alex Liddi is now 6-for-9 in the series after a 3-for-4 night on Saturday. Leury Bonilla, Johan Limonta and Joe Dunigan each had two hit nights for West Tenn. Carlos Peguero had a triple and drove in two in the game. Elian Herrera and Jaime Pedroza had two hits apiece for the Lookouts.

Vasquez (2-3) struck out seven and walked two in his six innings of work on Saturday night. Mumba Rivera is four for his last four in save chances and worked a scoreless ninth for West Tenn. Rubby De La Rosa (3-1) suffered the loss for Chattanooga and allowed two runs (one earned) on the night. De La Rosa struck out four and walked none.

Jerry Sands hit a solo homer in the top of the first to put Chattanooga on top 1-0. The homer was the 35th of the season for Sands between Single-A and Double-A this season.

The Jaxx tied it in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch by starter, Rubby De La Rosa. Johan Limonta scored the Jaxx first run and it was tied at 1-1.

Joe Dunigan scored on an error by the Lookouts in the bottom of the second inning. The Jaxx took their first lead of the game and went up 2-1 after the second inning.

Carlos Peguero drove in Leury Bonilla and Johan Limonta on a triple with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. The triple put the Jaxx up 4-1 after six innings.

The Jaxx answered a score in the top of the seventh by Chattanooga with a run in the bottom half. Johan Limonta drove in Bonilla to put the Jaxx back up by three, 5-2.

Jaime Pedroza hit his seventh homer of the season in the top of the eighth inning with two outs and no one on base. Pedroza's homer made it a 5-3 advantage for West Tenn.

The Jaxx and Lookouts continue their series on Sunday afternoon with a 2:05 start at Pringles Park. RHP Jarrett Grube (4-5, 3.27) starts for the Jaxx, while RHP Chris Withrow (4-8, 5.51) tosses for the Lookouts. Kids and seniors eat free on Sunday, with paid admission. Sunday is also the Seast Ticket Holder Batting Practice and Picnic.

The Jaxx will host game three of the Division Series on Saturday, September 11th, at Pringles Park, with first pitch at 5:05. The playoffs will begin in Kodak, TN on Thursday night at 6:15 CDT at Smokies Park. Game two of the Division Series is also at Smokies Park on Friday. The Division Series is a best of five series with game's four and five if necessary being back at Smokies Park on Sunday and Monday.
