Amarillo, TX 4/1/10- The Amarillo Venom travel to the Texas capital this week to take on the Austin Turf Cats Friday, April 2nd at the Travis County Expo Center.
Amarillo (2-0), swept the season series versus the West Texas Roughnecks with a 55-33 win last Saturday. Venom running back Dontrell Moore collected 13 of the 28 rushing attempts for 105 yards and 4 touchdowns in his Amarillo debut. The Amarillo defense forced 2 interceptions last Saturday (the team is a plus-5 in turnover deferential through two games) and have kept the opponent's offense off the field, holding them to an average of 35 plays a game. In contrasted, the Venom offense has averaged 48 offensive plays a game.
Austin (1-1) is coming off their third bye week of the season after defeating the Arkansas Diamonds 31-29 March 20th for the first Turf Cats victory on the 2010 campaign. Quarterback Rico Watkins is a dual threat, totaling 2 touchdowns by passing and running this season. Wideouts Reggie Smith (leads Austin in receiving yards with 125) and Austin Willis (leads the Turf Cats in receiving scores with 2) are Austin's lightning bolts on the outside.
