Iowa Chops News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Iowa Stars today assigned two forwards to the Idaho Steelheads its East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate. John Lammers and Aaron Gagnon, both on two-way NHL/AHL contracts with Dallas and Iowa, are expected to join the Steelheads training camp later today.

Steelhead head coach Derek Laxdal said, "Getting two quality forwards like Lammers and Gagnon from our affiliate makes the decisions much tougher for Opening Day roster. It's been a great camp, and as a coach you want to be put in this position to have to make tough decisions."

Lammers, a third round (86th overall) 2004 NHL draft pick for the Dallas Stars, played in nine regular season Steelheads games in 2006-07 after being reassigned by Dallas on Mar. 21st. In 22 playoff games, the 21-year-old tallied 19 points (7g-12a) including two goals and an assist in the Kelly Cup Finals clinching game at Dayton. With Iowa last season, the 5-11, 190-pound winger played in 52 games, notching 14 points (6g-8a). The BC native attended the Dallas Stars training camp this season, before going to Iowa's camp where he's played in one regular season game. Prior to turning pro, Lammers spent four-plus seasons in the Western Hockey League where he competed in total of 256 games and scored 199 points (93g-106a) including 75 points (38g-37a) in his final 70-game junior season.

Gagnon, 21, attended the 2007-08 Dallas Stars training camp, before reassignment to the Iowa Stars. The 5-11, 190-pound center is looking to make his professional debut after a stellar career with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League. Signed as a free agent by Dallas on Feb. 2, 2007, the native of Armstrong, BC, ranked second in the WHL in goals (42) and led Seattle in goals and points (80) last season. He was named a First-Team All-WHL All-Star and won the Brad Hornung Trophy as the league's most sportsmanlike player. Gagnon was originally selected by Phoenix in the eighth round (240th overall) in the 2004 Entry Draft.
