Atlanta Assigns Eight Players To Wolves

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned eight players to the Chicago Wolves, including forwards JOEY CRABB, GUILLAUME DESBIENS (ghee-OHM day-BYEHN), CHAD PAINCHAUD (PAYNE-show), TOMAS POSPISIL (PAHS-pih-sil), JESSE SCHULTZ and MYLES STOESZ (STAYZ) and defensemen CHAD DENNY and SCOTT LEHMAN (LAY-man).

DENNY, Atlanta's second pick, 49th overall, in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft, ranked sixth among Quebec Major Junior Hockey League defensemen and third on the Lewiston MAINEiacs with a career-high 65 points (17G, 48A) in 59 games last season. The Sydney, Nova Scotia, native helped the MAINEiacs capture the 2007 QMJHL President Cup and earn a bid in the Memorial Cup Tournament, notching 10 goals and nine assists in 17 playoff contests. Overall, the 20-year-old defenseman collected 100 assists, 147 points and 356 penalty minutes in 215 games with Lewiston spanning four seasons (2003-07).

SCHULTZ tallied 18 goals and 39 points in 67 contests with the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose last season. The 24-year-old right wing also made his NHL debut in 2006-07, and was held scoreless in two outings with the Vancouver Canucks. Overall, the Strasbourg, Saskatchewan, native has registered 64 goals and 131 points in 219 career AHL tilts spanning four seasons with Manitoba.

CRABB, a member of last year's Wolves squad, posted two goals in Atlanta's preseason overtime defeat of the New York Islanders last night. The 24-year-old right wing ranked fourth among Chicago rookies with 22 points and dished out 15 assists in 63 outings during his professional debut last season.

DESBIENS also skated for the Wolves last season and recorded AHL career-highs with six assists and nine points, while ranking second on the squad with 118 penalty minutes in 54 regular-season outings.

POSPISIL ranked third on the Ontario Hockey League's Sarnia Sting last year with a career-high 29 goals and fifth with 67 points in 55 games. The 20-year-old right wing was signed by Chicago to an Amateur Tryout Agreement on April 4, but did not appear in any games with the Wolves.

All eight players will be on hand when the Wolves open training camp at the Hoffman Estates Park District Community Center and Ice Arena on Sat., Sept. 22.
