Durham Bulls News Release
Toledo, OH - Jon Weber led off the ninth inning with a tie-breaking home run and Evan Longoria followed a few batters later with his second homer of the game leading the Durham Bulls to a 5-2 win and series sweep of the Toledo Mud Hens on Friday night at Fifth-Third Field in Toledo. The Bulls advance to the Governors' Cup Finals for the first time since 2003 where they will face the winner of the Scranton Wilkes-Barre/Richmond series. Richmond leads that series two games to one.
Toledo got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on Andres Torres inside-the-park home run over the head of Bulls right-fielder Justin Ruggiano. The Bulls responded in the top of the second inning on Longoria's first home run, a towering blast to left field that left the stadium and knotted the game at one apiece. Durham took the lead in the top of the fifth inning on Weber's RBI-single scoring Michel Hernandez, but Toledo responded in the bottom of the seventh inning with a lead-off triple from David Espinosa and an RBI-double from pinch-hitter Chris Maples.
Following a lengthy rain delay and a scoreless eighth inning, Weber led off the ninth with his second home run of the post-season, a shot to right field giving the Bulls a 3-2 lead. Two batters later, Chris Richard singled and Longoria launched his second home run to left to give the Bulls a pair of insurance run and the eventual 5-2 win.
RHP Chad Orvella (1-0) picked up the win pitching a perfect eighth inning in relief of starter Jae Seo. Seo pitched seven innings allowing two runs on five hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. Shawn Camp picked up his first save of the post-season with a perfect ninth.
Durham will host Games One and Two of the Governors' Cup Finals beginning on Tuesday, September 11th at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available at www.durhambulls.com or by phone at (919) 956-BULL.
