Stars Pitching No Hits Tennessee

Huntsville, AL. -The Stars evened the series by taking game two 5-0 Friday Night over Tennessee. Corey Thurman started the no-hit bid by pitching the first six innings with out allowing a run. Thurman retired the final sixteen Smokies hitters in a row before being pitch hit for in the bottom of the sixth. He walked two and struke out seven in the winning start. David Johnson then picked it up in the seventh and eighth limiting Tennessee to a walk and a third pitch wild-pitch but no hits. Then Luis Pena retired the side in order for the final three outs.

The Stars used a five run sixth to snap a scoreless game and break it open. The inning started with back to back singles by Hernan Iribarren and Adam Heether then Lou Palmisano laid down a sacrifice bunt which turned into an error by Tennessee third baseman Kyle Reynolds. The Stars then got on the board with a bases loaded two run single by Michael Brantley and reloaded the bases for pitch hitter Mike Goetz who also singled in two. The Stars got a run scoring groundout to finish the frame.The best-of-five Series is now tied at 1-1 and will shift back to Smokies Park tomorrow . Tennessee will start Jeff Samardzija (3-3, 3.41) while the Stars are sending Derek Miller (6-2, 3.18) Tickets are available by calling the Smokies ticket office 286-2300 or on line at smokiesbaseball.com.
