Ron Potesta named Southern League Radio Broadcaster of the Year

September 7, 2007 - Southern League (SL1) News Release

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce that Ron Potesta of the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx has been named the Radio Broadcaster of the Year, as voted upon by his peers and the league's general managers.

Winning the annual award is an appropriate sendoff for the popular Potesta, who parted ways with West Tenn following the season to pursue opportunities closer to Springfield, IL, where he resides with his wife Kim and dog Mincer. Potesta spent five seasons as the voice of the Diamond Jaxx, providing entertaining accounts of each game since Robert Lozinak purchased the team.

"The Lozinaks would like to express our congratulations to Ron for another terrific year of broadcasting Diamond Jaxx baseball," Diamond Jaxx vice president of administration David Lozinak said. "Ron has been a valuable part of our organization since we took over the club in the fall of 2002.

"We have always believed that Ron has been given a gift to make the game come alive on the radio. The Diamond Jaxx have been fortunate to share that gift with his listeners throughout West Tennessee as well as those others who listened to his broadcast on the Internet."

Potesta briefly attended Youngstown State University before transferring to the Ohio School of Broadcasting, where he continued pursuit of his occupational dream. Prior to joining West Tenn in 2003, Potesta served as broadcaster for the Vero Beach Dodgers of the Florida State League in 2002. He also spent time perched behind a microphone for other professional baseball teams, including the Abilene Prairie Dogs and Lubbock Crickets of the independent Texas-Louisiana League.

The first member of the Diamond Jaxx to win the annual award, Potesta joins a distinguished list of honorees that includes current Southern League radio broadcasters Curt Bloom, Patrick Kinas, Jim Tocco and Larry Ward.
