Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the second game of a four-game set from Frontier Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking to build off of their 10-7 victory in the opener last night and are currently 1-2 on the regular season-ending roadtrip. On the mound will be LHP Jeremy Sowers, who has won his last three decisions. Rochester will counter with LHP Brian Duensing.
VS. WINGS: This Bisons are 9-4 against the Red Wings, including a perfect 5-0 at Frontier Field. Dating back to last year, Buffalo has won 8 of their last 10 in Rochester.
IN THE CLUBHOUSE: Ben Francisco is now with Cleveland, but left with the top average in the International League. At .318, Francisco will have to see if Rochester's Jose Morales (.316) or Richmond's Martin Prado (.314) can catch him with three games left. Francisco is hoping to become the Bisons first batting championship since 1990 (Mark Ryal, .334, American Association).
SWEET AND SOWERS: LHP Jeremy Sowers has been much better of late, winning his last three decisions (four starts). Since July 20, Sowers is 4-1 with a 2.42ERA (52.0IP, 51H, 14ER, 38K). Sowers won his only game against Rochester this year, pitching seven innings and allowing just two runs on August 17 at Dunn Tire Park (seven strikeouts).
HIT STREAK: Andy Marte comes into tonight's game with a 10-game hit streak -the longest active streak on the team. Since August 21, he has hit .412 (14-34) with three home runs and 11RBI. He has also scored eight runs in the 10-game stretch.
ROSTER MOVES: September call ups have four players leaving the Bisons and joining Cleveland. IL post season All-Star Ben Francisco, mid-season All-Star Luis Rivas, saves-leader Mike Koplove and Cliff Lee were all promoted today. Infielder Trent Durrington has been activated from the disabled list. Durrington had reached safely in 13 of 14 games before being placed on the DL on August 23. From August 9-23, he hit .300 (12-40) with six walks.
TO THE OCCASION: Mike Rose has homered in each of his last two games. He has also gone deep four times in his last six games after hitting just two in his first 78 games. Rose has average .368 (21-57) in 16 games since August 9.
