Mariotti, offense lead 'Birds to 8-1 win

Aberdeen, MD- John Mariotti took a three-hitter into the sixth inning and Matt Angle tied a franchise record with three steals in the same game as Aberdeen snapped a three-game losing streak with an 8-1 win over Brooklyn on Thursday.

Matt Tucker also went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored for Aberdeen, which opened a four game home stand with the victory.

Angle became the fourth player in franchise history with three steals in one game. He had two hits and a walk and scored three runs for Aberdeen. It was the first time an IronBirds player had three steals in the same game since Bobby Andrews accomplished the feat last July 7.

Tucker, Angle and Ryan Adams each had multi-hit games in support of Mariotti (2-1), who set the tone early with his best start of the season. Mariotti gave up one unearned run on three-hits over six innings for his first win since July 17.

Brooklyn starter Tim Stronach struggled in his first start since June 29. Stronach (3-2) took the loss after he allowed three runs on four hits and three walks in three innings.

Game Notes- Angle is now tied with Vermont's Boomer Whiting for the league lead with 30 SB...IronBirds DH Joe Mahoney left the game after he fouled a pitch off his right ankle in his first at-bat; he was replaced by Robbie Widlansky... Reliever Brian Parker made his IronBirds debut in the seventh inning after he was promoted from Bluefield earlier in the day.
