August 30, 2007 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ-Edgar Garcia threw seven shutout innings and one Lakewood run was good enough as the BlueClaws won their 5th straight game in a 1-0 triumph over Lake County on Wednesday night.

Lakewood (35-30) wins their 5th game in a row and sweeps a series for the first time since the final week of June. The are 3.5 games behind Hickory, who leads 1-0 over Asheville in the 4th inning with their game suspended by rain. It will be finished Friday before the regularly scheduled game.

Garcia (4-9) picked up his first win in his last six starts, but he hadn't been working with much run support, as Lakewood's one run on Thursday brought their six start total to 11 runs for Garcia.

Paige Dumont got the final six outs for his 2nd save, and the game ended when Brian Juhl flied out to left field for the 2nd out of the 9th and Cirilo Cumberbatch was doubled off first by Julian Williams.

The only run of the game came on a Joel Naughton SAC fly in the bottom of the 4th inning with the bases loaded. RF Cirilo Cumberbatch made a diving catch to prevent additional damage and Gus Milner was thrown out stealing 3rd to end the inning.

Paolo Espino of Lake County fell to 4-5 with the loss, despite allowing just one run over six innings of work.

Lakewood now heads to Hagerstown for a two-game series beginning Friday night at 7:05. Antonio Bastardo (9-0) opposes Zack Baldwin (4-5) as Bastardo goes for 10-0 in his final regular season start.
