51s Announce 2007 Season Awards On Final Home Game

LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, announced today the 2007 season awards for the players.

51s President/General Manager Don Logan announced the following awards: Mayor's Trophy: Infielder John Lindsey; MVP: Outfielder Delwyn Young; Community Service Award: Catcher Octavio Martinez.

The Mayor's Trophy has been given annually since 1983 and is voted on by the fans. The previous winners of the Mayor's Trophy:

John Lindsey (Mayor's Trophy): Lindsey joined the 51s on June 12 from Double-A Jacksonville and has emerged as one of the most consistent players on the team. He has appeared in 72 games and has recorded 81 RBI. He is batting .343 (94-for-274) with 21 doubles and 19 home runs. He compiled hitting streaks of 13 and 17 games (current) and was named the Dodgers Minor League Player of the Month for July. He has recorded 26 multiple-hit games and has hit safely in 58 of 72 games. He drove in a season-high 6 runs against Portland on July 16. This season, he has 30 home runs and 114 RBI in 128 games with Jacksonville and Las Vegas.

Delwyn Young (MVP): Young has been a member of the 51s for three seasons. In 2007, he was named to the PCL All-Star Team and the All-PCL Team. He has appeared in 116 games and is batting .338 (157-for-465) with 17 home runs and 89 RBI. He leads the PCL in doubles (50), extra-base hits (72), runs scored (103) and ranks third in batting average. He has recorded 48 multiple-hit games and is the Las Vegas franchise leader in career doubles (104) and single season doubles, breaking Kevin McReynolds' record set in 1983 with 46. Young is four doubles shy of tying the PCL modern day record of 54 doubles, set by Walt Williams (Tulsa) in 1966. He was also named the Dodgers Minor League Player of the Month for June and has appeared in 8 games for the Dodgers this season and is batting .500 (7-for-14) and was 4-for-4 against Cincinnati on August 9. The MVP was chosen by the 51s coaching staff.

Octavio Martinez (Community Service Award): Martinez is the recipient of the community service award. He has participated in various kids and charity events during the 2007 season. He has appeared in 21 games this season and is batting .297 (19-for-64). He has hit safely in 16 of 21 games and compiled an 11-game hitting streak from June 12 - August 1.

The 51s, under manager Lorenzo Bundy, will conclude the 2007 season with a four-game series at Salt Lake City, Utah against the Salt Lake Bees, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, over Labor Day weekend from Friday-Monday, August 31 - September 3.
