Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - Coming off another Charleston professional baseball attendance record in 2007 with several games still to play, the Charleston RiverDogs have released their 2008 schedule which includes the fanfare of Opening Night and a July 1 Independence Day celebration at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
The '08 season, which will be the club's fourth year as an affiliate of the 26-time World Champion New York Yankees, marks the 12th season of baseball at The Joe and 15th as the RiverDogs.
The season begins on the road for the RiverDogs as they visit the Rome Braves on Thursday, April 3. The team's first homestand of the season will last eight nights, with four games against the Savannah SandGnats and four against Rome that runs April 7-14.
The '08 schedule features 12 Friday night games, 11 Thursday night games and nine Saturday night games. RiverDogs fans will become familiar with the Rome Braves and Columbus Catfish as the two SAL Southern Division rivals come to the Holy City 14 and 12 times, respectively, during the 70-home game campaign.
Three SAL Northern Division teams will play at The Joe during the upcoming season as the RiverDogs welcome the Lexington Legends, West Virginia Power and Hickory Crawdads. For the first time in three years, however, the RiverDogs will not finish the season at home over Labor Day weekend, as they will be on the road to Rome and Savannah for five games to close out the campaign.
The club will play at home 16 times in July - the most of any month - and will play 14 times in April and June. The RiverDogs play Rome and Savannah the most - a total 24 times each - while facing Columbus 20 times.
Included in the slate will be eight doubleheaders with The Citadel Bulldogs, including five games over a six-day period in mid-April.
The RiverDogs will soon be working on the '08 promotional calendar which will feature many of the time-tested promotions as well as some exciting new additions. RiverDogs fans can plan on seeing the return of popular promotions including Thirsty Thursdays, Friday night fireworks, family Sundays, military appreciation nights, dog days, Saturday giveaways, and live entertainment at the ballpark.
