BayBears' loss ends streak

MOBILE, AL - The BayBears five game winning streak came to an end Sunday, falling to the Jacksonville Suns 7-2. The BayBears never led the game, held at Hank Aaron Stadium in front of 6,231 fans. Jacksonville remains in second place, two games behind first place Montgomery, while the BayBears have been eliminated from post-season contention in 2007.

Sunday the BayBears fell behind 2-0 in the first inning after a two-run home run by A.J. Ellis. The BayBears added a run each in the first and third innings to tie the game but the Suns scored a fourth inning run on a James Tomlin sacrifice fly, and never trailed again. The one-run ninth inning game opened into a five run game, after home runs by Juan Gonzalez and Blake DeWitt gave the Suns a 7-2 lead in the top of the ninth.

Esmerling Vasquez (10-5) suffered the loss for the BayBears, allowing three earned runs in seven innings of work. Jacksonville starter James McDonald (7-2) picked up the win in his first game against the BayBears, allowing just one run on six hits.

The BayBears and Suns continue their series Monday at 7:05 PM, with RHP Max Scherzer (3-4) pitching for the BayBears against Suns RHP Justin Orenduff (8-4). Other BayBears Notes: With a combined attendance of 19,135 Friday through Sunday, the BayBears set a new three-day Hank Aaron Stadium attendance record......... Monday at Hank Aaron Stadium is "Guaranteed Foul Ball Night," where all children ages 10 and under will get a game-used foul ball.
