Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA (August 26, 2007) - Tony Butler pitched his first career complete game and shutout as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (25-36, 47-82) beat the Burlington Bees (29-32, 59-71) 7-0 at Community Field this afternoon. The victory is Wisconsin's first win of the season in five games at Community Field and their first in this series. The Bees still lead this set 2-1 and the season series 5-2 with one game left to play.
Butler (3-7) limited the Bees to four hits and two walks while striking out eight in his first road win of the season. Jamar Walton and Matt Morizio each had two hits, including a double apiece. Luis Castillo drew both walks.
Bees' starter Mario Santiago (5-10) allowed three runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings and got the loss. The Timber Rattlers got on the board first in the top of the second inning. With Guy Welsh at first and two outs, Jamie McOwen hit a fly ball down the left field line that just eluded Brady Everett for a double and an RBI. The Rattlers added a run in the fourth when Kuo Hui Lo led off with a double and scored on a base hit by Welsh. In the fifth, Juan Diaz led off with another fly ball that gave Everett trouble in left and fell in for a double. After a sacrifice bunt by Calvin Beamon moved Diaz to third, Leury Bonilla chopped a base hit over a drawn-in infield for a single, an RBI, and a 3-0 Rattlers' lead. Santiago got the second out in the fifth, but came out after a single by Joe White. Chris Hayes took over and got Lo to pop out and end the inning.
Hayes would work through the seventh inning and allowed two runs in the top of the seventh, but both were unearned after a throwing error by Jesus Soto at third. Ryan DiPietro pitched the eighth inning and allowed the final two runs. Welsh led off with a double and went to third when McOwen dropped a shallow fly ball in front of a sliding Everett and hustled the play into a double of his own. After a lineout, DiPietro walked Diaz to load the bases. Beamon then lined a base hit to drive in two. DiPietro got out of the inning from there. Jim Wladyka pitched the ninth and set the Rattlers down in order.
