Great Lakes Loons News Release
LANSING, MI - Loons manager Lance Parrish announced today that Loons pitcher Garrett White and infielder Adolfo Gonzalez have been promoted by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the organization's High-A affiliate, the Inland Empire 66ers of the California League. In corresponding moves, right-hander Steven Johnson has been added to the Loons' roster from the Ogden roster and first baseman Rick Taloa has been activated from the disabled list.
White has been a consistent presence in the Loons' bullpen this season. In 23 games, the left-hander from Round Rock, TX, has a 1-4 record and a 3.33 ERA. In 51 1/3 innings, he has walked just 15 and struck out 63. He was on the disabled list from July 7 through August 18 with a left shoulder injury. Since returning to action, White has made two appearances of one inning each. He was used briefly in the Loons' starting rotation (four starts), but has since resumed work as a reliever.
The versatile Gonzalez is hitting .295 with five homers and 29 RBIs since joining the Loons May 6. This year he has played all four infield positions, plus left field and pitcher. The native of Caracas, Venezuela, has reached safely in 12 consecutive games and on Friday snapped a 10-game hitting streak, during which time he hit .378.
White and Gonzalez join a bevy of former Loons currently playing for the 66ers: RHP Francisco Felix, RHP Jesus Rodriguez, OF Bridger Hunt, LHP Cody White, 3B Josh Bell and RHP Miguel Ramirez.
Taloa and Johnson will be active for today's game between the Loons and Lansing Lugnuts. Johnson (3-5) is scheduled to start against right-hander Graham Godfrey (6-6). Game time is 2:05pm ET. The game will be carried in Mid-Michigan on 100.9 WYLZ and worldwide online at Loons.com.
Just five more home games remain for the Loons at Dow Diamond in the team's inaugural season. Tickets are available for the Loons' two-game series Tuesday and Wednesday against the South Bend Silverhawks. Both games begin at 7:05pm. Call 989-837-BALL or visit Loons.com for tickets and information.
