Salisbury, MD: The Hagerstown Suns were defeated 4-2 by the Delmarva Shorebirds on Wednesday from Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
The Suns once again did not have an answer for the 'Birds pitching staff as they mustered just two-runs on seven hits.
The Suns trailing 3-0 cut the lead to just one-run after a two-run double off the bat of Trevor Lawhorn to cut the Shorebird's lead to 3-2 in the sixth. However, the Suns were held off the board from then on against the Shorebirds' bullpen. Bird's starter Wilfredo Perez handled the Suns with ease, firing four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven.
Reid Hamblet (9-3) tossed 3.1 innings in relief, allowing the two runs on Lawhorn's double while striking out seven. Suns' starter Yunior Novoa (5-11) garnered the loss tossing five innings, allowing three runs, walking 0 and striking out seven.
Luis Lebron picked up his fifth save with a scoreless 9th including two strikeouts. The Suns set a season high striking out 16 times.
Marcos Cabral and Francisco Plasencia chipped in with multi-hit games in a losing effort.
The Suns are now a season low 29 games under .500 and have managed just 10 runs in their last five games.
On Thursday, the Suns and 'Birds will play the finale of their three game set from Arthur W. Pedue Stadium, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM. The Suns will return home for a seven game homestand this Sunday against the Lakewood BlueClaws. The Suns are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals and are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties. Only one homestand remains after this weekend.
