Lexington Legends News Release
CHARLESTON, WV. - The Lexington Legends blew a three run lead in the eighth inning but rebounded for two ninth inning runs to beat West Virginia 5-3 on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park.
One night after Matt LaPorta belted two homers to help West Virginia to a victory, Koby Clemens tried to do the same for Lexington on Wednesday night. Clemens got the scoring started with a solo homer to right field in the second inning. Koby added a two run shot in the seventh inning to give the Legends some breathing room.
West Virginia responded with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against the Legends bullpen. Santo Luis surrendered a run scoring single by Taylor Green. DeYoung relieved Luis and promptly walked in one run and forced in the tying run by hitting Martin Maldonado.
The Legends didn't back down in the ninth inning. Nick Moresi's broken bat single to right field scored Greg Buchanan who reached on a fielder's choice. Moresi came around to score on Ronnie Ramirez' double to centerfield to end the scoring at 5-3.
The eighth inning collapse wasted a terrific performance by Bud Norris. The right-hander pitched seven shutout innings allowing just three hits. Norris struck eight batters.
Kyle DeYoung (4-8) got the win after blowing the save in the eighth inning. Reid Kelly picked up his sixth save with a scoreless ninth.
The Legends had a scary moment in the fourth inning. Jordan Parraz was hit in the face by a pitch from Shawn Ferguson. Parraz left the game under his own power and was taken to an area hospital. Parraz suffered a laceration on the bridge of his nose and will be held over night for observation.
The Legends wrap up their series with West Virginia on Thursday night. Left-hander Doug Arguello (6-10, 5.15) will get the call for the Legends while the Power counter with right-hander Jeremy Jeffress (8-5, 3.49). Game time is set for 7:05pm. Legends network coverage will begin at 6:50pm.
Billy Gillispie will be at the Legends game next Monday night, will you be? The UK basketball coach will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and you don't want to miss it. Call the Applebee's Park box office at 422-RUNS (7867) for more information. Fans can also purchase tickets online at www.lexingtonlegends.com.
