Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Salisbury, Md.- Four Delmarva pitchers combined to strike out 16 batters as the Shorebirds defeated the Hagerstown Suns 4-2 to take the first two games of a three-game series at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Wilfrido Perez went four innings of scoreless two-hit ball, but left the game for reaching his pitch count of 55. He struck out seven and only walked one in his four frames. Reid Hamblet went three and a third to pick up the win, allowing two runs and five hits while striking out six. After Chad Thall pitched two-thirds of an inning, Luis Lebron struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his fifth save.

Victor Castillo and Paul Winterling led the offense for the Shorebirds with three hits apiece. Castillo's RBI double in the fourth scored Miguel Abreu to give the Shorebirds a 2-0 lead. Winterling singled home Castillo with a single to left for a 3-0 cushion. After Suns third baseman Trevor Lawhorn cut the lead to one in the sixth with a two-RBI double to left, Winterling tripled in the bottom of the frame, driving home Castillo for a 4-2 Delmarva lead.

The Shorebirds go for the sweep tomorrow and send Kyle Schmidt to the mound. He will be opposed by Erik Arnesen for Hagerstown.
