Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
EASTLAKE, OH--Beau Mills' RBI single in the 7th inning off of Zack Sterner capped a comeback from 4- 0 down and Lake County topped Lakewood 5-4 on Tuesday night.
In the game, Quintin Berry picked up two hits, and his 4th inning two-run single was his 141st hit of the season, pushing him past Jake Blalock for the BlueClaws single-season hits record, but it came in a BlueClaws loss.
Lakewood (28-27) drops the first game of three with the Captains (27-27) after taking two of three from first place Hickory over the weekend at FirstEnergy Park.
The Captains tied the game in the 6th inning when Roman Pena, the first batter to face Sterner, hit a grand slam. It was Pena's 6th home run of the season and came after Antonio Bastardo loaded the bases with two walks and a single before being pulled for Sterner, who fell to 1-1 with the loss.
Mills' single came with two outs and scored Jason Denham, who had singled and stolen 2nd base.
The BlueClaws built a 4-0 lead off of Santo Frias. Charlie Yarbrough's first inning single scored Berry, who tied the record with a single leading off the game. In the 4th, Fidel Hernandez singled in one run and then Berry singled in two more to give him sole possession of the single season hits record.
Greg Golson, who played with Lakewood in 2005 and 2006, holds the all-time hits record with 184.
Frias came out after 3 1/3 and the bullpen (Kyle Collina, Carlton Smith, and Luis Perdomo) pitched shutout ball the rest of the way. Smith, who threw shutout ball in the 7th and 8th innings, improved to 10- 6 with the win. Luis Perdomo picked up his 9th save.
Bastardo allowed three runs on two hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings. It's the 2nd straight start for the left-hander in which he left with a lead and got a no-decision.
