LaPorta Leads Power Past Legends

CHARLESTON, WV. - Matt LaPorta had two home runs going into Tuesday night's game with Lexington but he doubled that total while leading West Virginia to a 5-1 win at Appalachian Power Park.

The first was a solo shot in the fourth inning to tie the game. LaPorta greeted reliever Nick Cavanagh with three run shot in the fifth inning to give the Power their 10th win in 16 games against Lexington.

The Legends scored first manufacturing a run in the second. Two singles and an error on Brent Brewer loaded the bases for Greg Buchanan. The Legends second-baseman scored Koby Clemens on a fielder's choice.

West Virginia scored a run in the eighth inning off of Chad Wagler. Chuckie Caufield raced home on a fielder's choice.

Sergio Severino (5-7) suffered the loss with 4.2 innings allowing three runs on four hits. Alex Periard (6-7) continued his mastery of the Legends with six innings of one run baseball. Periard has allowed just two runs in twenty innings against Lexington this season.

The Legends continue their series with Charleston on Wednesday night. The Legends will send right-hander Bud Norris (2-7, 5.12) to the mound while the Power will counter with Chris Toneguzzi (6-3, 5.47). Game time is set for 7:05pm. Legends network coverage will begin at 6:50pm.
