'Riders drop second straight to Wichita

The Frisco RoughRiders lost, 5-1, to the Wichita Wranglers Sunday afternoon in Wichita. Kendy Batista made his Frisco debut and surrendered four earned runs in five innings of work while being saddled with the loss.

The majority of the afternoon's offense took place in the second as the 'Riders jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Chris Davis' eighth home run. Wichita answered in the bottom of the frame with four runs of their own to take a 4-1 lead. Onil Joseph delievered the big blow, a two-run, two out triple.

The RoughRiders' offense was stifled by Wichita's Jason Shiell, Justin Barnes (1-0) and Jason Cromer who combined to hold the 'Riders to just one run on two hits. Wrangler pitching also combined to strike out eight batters.

Batista struck out five in his debut while walking three and allowing five hits. Kea Kometani, Brennan Garr and Jesse Ingram combined to hold the Wranglers scoreless over the final three innings.

The series wraps up Monday night as the 'Riders will look to salvage the series with Doug Mathis (9-6) on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
