Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Felipe Paulino pitched six shutout innings and Drew Sutton and Francisco Caraballo combined for five RBIs with fifth-inning doubles to lead Corpus Christi past Arkansas 7-3 in Texas League action Wednesday at Whataburger Field.

The Hooks improved to 27-23 in the second half of TL play and have won 10 of their last 15. Corpus Christi stands two games behind leader San Antonio in the South Division. Arkansas is 25-25.

Caraballo has hit safely in 11 of the last 12 games. Hooks left fielder Ray Sadler blasted his 20th home run of the year, a solo shot to left off David Austen in the seventh. Sadler's 74 RBIs are second in the league and he's driven in 25 runs in the last 26 contests. Shortstop Tommy Manzella extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Paulino (6-7) and Travelers starter Nick Adenhart (8-7) matched zeros through four frames before Corpus Christi erupted for six runs on six hits while sending 11 to the plate. Caraballo had two hits in the onslaught. He began the surge with a single and completed the scoring with a two-run two-bagger. A Lou Santangelo single and walk to Josh Flores loaded the bases for Sutton's double, a shot to the warning track in left-center.

Manzella singled and drew a throw from catcher Ben Johnson on the back end of a double steal with Sutton, who scored on the return throw from second baseman Adam Morrissey. Consecutive walks to Todd Self and Michael Johnson set the stage for Caraballo.

Paulino went seven innings. He allowed one run, five hits, three walks and fanned seven.

Adenhart, lifted with an out in the fifth for Von Stertzbach, gave up five hits, walked six and struck out three. Austen and Chris Hunter each threw an inning in relief for the Travelers.

Arkansas pushed a run across in the sixth on Freddy Sandoval's double and a single by Matt Pali. The Travelers touched Sammy Gervacio for two runs in the ninth on a throwing error by third baseman Drew Sutton and Cody Fuller's RBI single.

Lefty Brian Bogusevic (0-0) takes the mound Thursday for Corpus Christi against Miguel Gonzales (7-3).
