Arkansas Travelers News Release

Dickey-Stephens Park, North Little Rock, AR - CF Drew Macias knocked in six runs to lead the San Antonio Missions (27-19, 58-58) to an 11-4 victory over the Arkansas Travelers (24-24, 55-63). Macias whacked a grand slam (7) in the fourth inning to give the Missions the lead, then added a two-run double as part of a four-run fifth inning helping San Antonio pull away. Chase Headley added a solo shot (19) as the Missions won their second straight from the Travs. Arkansas RHP Brok Butcher (1-2) gave up five runs (four earned) on four hits including the grand slam over 2.1 innings for the loss. San Antonio RHP Will Inman (3-0) pitched around four walks in his five innings allowing only two runs on two hits for the victory. RHP Dirk Hayhurst finished the final three innings for his second save. Since both Springfield and Tulsa earned wins on Sunday, the Travs are now two games back for the second-half division lead and 3.5 games back of the wildcard spot.

The Travs took a second-inning lead against Inman as a walk and a double by Ben Johnson put runners at second and third with no outs. Corey Myers knocked in Sean Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly to center, while Cody Fuller whacked a book-rule double to left field scoring Johnson for a 2-0 lead.

Butcher had retired seven of the first eight Missions hitters, but Luis Cruz singled with one out in the third inning and stole second base. Butcher then bobbled a dribbler to the left of the mound for an error putting runners at the corners. Rodriguez attempted to start a double play after stopping Will Venable's smash, but he beat the relay throw to first base allowing Cruz to score cutting the Travs' lead to 2-1.

Butcher opened up the fourth inning with a walk to Brett Bonvechio. With one out, a single by Tim Brown and a hit batter loaded the bases for Macias. On a 1-2 count, Macias almost hit a grand slam, but his drive hooked foul. Three pitchers later, he lined a shot over the right-field wall for his second grand slam of the year knocking Butcher from the game.

With the Missions leading 5-2, RHP Chris Hunter relieved and came into the fifth inning. Headley delivered his solo home run and five more batters reached base in succession with Chad Huffman knocking in a run with a single, and Macias capping the rally with a two-run double giving the Missions a 9-2 lead.

The Travs' last offensive gasp came in the sixth inning off San Antonio RHP Paul Abraham. A single by Freddy Sandoval followed by two hit batters loaded the bases. Myers beat out a double play attempt to score Sandoval, while a throwing error charged to 2B Matt Antonelli on the return throw brought in Rodriguez getting the Travs' within 9-4.

Arkansas RHP Von Sterzbach had the best night of any Travs' pitcher retiring all seven batters he faced over 2.1 innings including three strikeouts.

Relievers RHP Rafael Rodriguez and RHP Bill Edwards each gave up a run in one inning, with Rodriguez snapping a 14-inning scoreless streak.

Time of game was 3:15 and the paid attendance was 3,967.

The Travs and Missions wrap up the three-game series on Monday with RHP Nick Green (8-6, 4.03 ERA) pitching for Arkansas against San Antonio RHP Josh Geer (13-5, 3.43 ERA). First pitch will be thrown at 7:10 p.m. and the gates open at 6:10 p.m.
