Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Beloit, Wis. - The Lansing Lugnuts season high five-game losing streak came to halt Sunday afternoon as they whitewashed the Beloit Snappers 8-0 at Pohlman Field. It was Lansing's first win of the current road trip.

Lansing took advantage of an erratic Brian Kirwan, Beloit's starting pitcher, to gain control of the game early.

Scott Campbell led the game off with a triple past a diving Eli Tintor in left field. Yuber Rodriguez was then hit by a pitch and Travis Snider drew a walk to load the bases for the Lugnuts with no men out. Jonathan Jaspe became the second man of the inning to be hit, which brought home Campbell to make it 1-0. Matt Liuzza then reached on a fielder's choice as Rodriguez raced home from third to push the lead to 2-0. Jonathan Baksh's sacrifice fly ended the scoring for the frame at 3-0.

Lansing added three more in the very next inning. With runners at second and third, Snider ripped a two-run double inside the bag at first to move the Lugnuts ahead 5-0. He would later score on a Liuzza RBI single that made it 6-0.

Julio Pinto took the reigns from there as he shut down the Snappers in the win. Pinto (2-5) tossed six innings of shutout baseball in just his fourth start of the season. He scattered four hits and struck out six in the performance.

Lansing added two more runs late in the game, as Jonathan Baksh had an RBI single in the sixth and Snider blasted a solo homer in the seventh to make it 8-0. It was Snider's 10th longball of the year. Kirwan (2-5) lasted just 1 2/3 innings, where he surrendered six earned runs on just four hits. He also walked three batters and hit two more in his outing.

Lansing (62-56, 27-22) and Beloit (70-48, 26-22) will resume the series on Monday night at 8:00 p.m. Southpaw Nate Starner (9-9, 4.50) will take the hill for the Lugnuts, while Matthew Fox (6-1, 3.05) will get the call for the Snappers.
