August 8, 2007 - Southern League (SL1)
Mississippi Braves News Release

After getting swept by the Huntsville Stars, Mississippi welcomed the Mobile BayBears to town for game one of a five-game series Wednesday night. The Braves jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third and held on as Mobile put up two unearned runs in sixth. Moises Hernandez got the win and Jose Ascanio struck out five of the seven batters he faced to record the save as the Braves snapped a six-game losing streak.

The M-Braves jumped out to a 3-0 lead as they rallied with two outs in the third inning. Carl Loadenthal singled and Diory Hernandez was hit by a pitch to get things going. Kala Ka'aihue then doubled to right-center brining Loadenthal to the plate with the game's first run. Mark Jurich then blooped a single to center field that scored Hernandez and Ka'aihue to put the Braves up by three.

They'd need all three of those runs as the BayBears plated two unearned runs in the sixth. With two outs in the inning, Mike Rozema's throw to first on a chopper brought Ka'aihue off the bag allowing Javier Brito to score from second. On batter late, Chris Rahl scored from second when Rozema's attempt at getting the force out at second sailed wide and into right field. With runners at first and third, Moises Hernandez got Aaron Cunningham to fly out to center field to preserve the Braves' lead.

Moises Hernandez gave the M-Braves six strong innings as he allowed only two unearned runs and left the game with a 3-2 lead. Rich Scalamandre came on and gave the Braves one scoreless inning as did Jose Ascanio. Ascanio struck out the side in his first inning of work and shutout the BayBears in the ninth to earn his seventh save of the year.

Mobile's Chris Kinsey gave up three runs on six hits in his seven innings of work and fell to 4-7 on the year. Mark Rosen threw one scoreless inning.

The Braves and the BayBears will play game two of this five-game series Thursday night at Trustmark Park at 7:05 pm. Mississippi is scheduled to send righty James Parr to the hill in search of his fourth W of the year while Mobile will counter with righty Matt Green who's going for his 12th win. The first 1,000 fans at Trustmark Park Thursday night will receive a free Brian McCann t-shirt and its also Thirsty Thursday when all 16 oz. fountain drinks and draft beer will be only $1.00.
