Big Hits Propel Barnstormers

August 7, 2007 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

Four homers and a double drove in a total of 12 runs on Tuesday evening as the Lancaster Barnstormers dropped the Road Warriors, 14-6, in the opener of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Chris Van Rossum slugged two of the homers, a pair of two-run blasts while Lance Burkhart homered, doubled and knocked in five. Jeremy Todd contributed a three-run homer as well.

And Dominick Ambrosini just kept rolling along. The Barnstormers left fielder was 4-for-5, improving his season average to .356, taking over the league lead.

Van Rossum's first homer of the night provided Josh Stevens (8-5) with a 2-0 lead in the second. Lancaster would do no more until the fifth inning when Ambrosini delivered Danny Gonzalez with an RBI single and Todd followed with a three-run blast to right, his 18th of the year.

Former Pirate right-hander Mike Garcia made his Atlantic League debut for the Road Warriors in the sixth and gave up Van Rossum's second homer, a drive through the picnic pavilion above the right field wall. Jutt Hileman added an RBI single to center, and Burkhart drilled a bases loaded double to left later in the inning.

Burkhart put the game out of reach with a three-run bomb over the batter's eye in the bottom of the eighth.

Stevens worked seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs. He walked none and struck out five in notching his first win of the second half. He yielded solo homers to David Housel in the sixth and Steven Doetsch in the seventh.

The Road Warriors struck for three runs off Ryan Harris in the eighth, but Ross Peeples recorded six outs on five batters to lock down the Barnstormers win.
