July 30, 2007 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ-A pair of home runs and strong pitching lifted Asheville to a 8-3 win over Lakewood on Monday night.

Jhaysson Agustin hit a two-run homer (5) in the 2nd off of Lakewood's Scott Mitchinson for a 2-1 Tourists' lead, one they would not give up.

Asheville (24-13) continues to lead the SAL Southern Division and they are the first inter-division opponent for Lakewood this year.

Jay Cox's sixth homer of the year made it 3-1 in the 4th and Matt Repec and Victor Ferrante added RBI doubles in the 6th to extend the lead to 5-1.

Meanwhile, lefty Keith Weiser allowed just one run over six innings improving to 13-5 on the year. He's the first pitcher in the South Atlantic League and just the 4th in all of the minors to reach the 13-win plateau.

Lakewood (19-17) has now lost seven of nine since winning the final three from West Virginia July 18-20 at FirstEnergy Park. The BlueClaws first run came in the first inning on an RBI double by Charlie Yarbrough, but they did not score until putting two on the board in the 9th.

Mitchinson (0-1) gave up five runs over 5.1 innings to take the loss. The BlueClaws did get 2.2 shutout innings of relief from Brian Schlitter.

Game two of the series comes on Tuesday at 7:05. Lakewood's Carlos Monasterios (9-7, 4.58) throws for Lakewood against Andy Graham of Asheville (9-7, 5.62).

CRAB LEGS: RJ Swindle, who had a 0.93 ERA for the BlueClaws with 10 saves, has been called up to Clearwater. Sergio Escalona has been sent to Williamsport, while Lakewood has added Edgar Garcia, who was with Lakewood earlier this year, and lefty reliever Matt German, a 2007 non-drafted free agent from Northern Illinois. Both Garcia and German come up from Williamsport of the NY-Penn League.
