July 30, 2007 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release

Kinston's Matt Whitney hit a game tying, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it wasn't enough as Kinston fell 5-4 to Myrtle Beach on Monday night. The Pelican's came back with a home run of their own, a solo shot by Quentin Davis, to break the tie in the top of the ninth.

After trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Kinston got the bats going with a one-out double by Johnny Drennen. Armando Camacaro continued his hot hitting, driving in Drennen with an RBI double one batter later. Mike Butia finished the scoring with an RBI single, driving in Camacaro. Myrtle Beach would add a run in the top of the eighth inning to go up 4-2. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Stephen Head was hit by a pitch. Whitney came up next to swat his sixth home run of the season and tie the score at four before Myrtle Beach came back to ruin the party. Erik Stiller (3-3) took the loss for Kinston, going 3 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs. Chris Niesel pitched to one batter in the top of the ninth inning. Kinston starter Kevin Dixon ended his consecutive win streak at eight games after picking up the no decision. Dixon went five innings, giving up eight hits and two earned runs. The eight consecutive wins were the most in the Carolina League in more than five years. The Pelican's Kevin Gunderson (4-4) blew the save, but picked up the win for Myrtle Beach.

Kinston returns to action on Tuesday at Grainger Stadium for game two of the three game series and six game home stand. The K-Tribe sends Sung-Wei Tseng to the mound at 7pm.
