Tribe Talk...

Dixon and K-Tribe Try to Stay Hot - Kinston starter Kevin Dixon tries to win his ninth consecutive start (more to the left) as the Kinston takes on second place Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans come in two games behind Kinston for first place in the Carolina League Southern Division in the second half. The two teams will meet a total of ten times before the end of the season. Myrtle Beach is 5-5 in their last ten games, the K-Tribe is 7-3 and coming off a successful 5-2 road trip. The Indians took series from both Wilmington and Potomac.

The Bus Had More Room on the Way Back - Changes, changes, changes on the last four days of the road trip.....yesterday K-Tribe outfielder Nathan Panther went to Double A. Panther was called up to Akron at the end of the 2005 season and ended up capturing the Eastern League Playoffs MVP award as Akron won the Eastern League title. He started in Akron last season, but was send to Kinston in the second half. Panther was second on Kinston's team in both on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Mike Finocchi got the call up to Double A Akron yesterday. Finocchi is the fifth K-Tribe reliever to move on up. T.J. Burton, Jeff Stevens and former Wilmington Blue Rock Randy Newsom, all got the call up in May. All three have stayed in Double A, Randy was a mid-season all-star. Scott Roehl went up and back as he filled in for an injured member of the bullpen. Catcher Chao Kuan Wu and reliever Kyle Collins were each taken off the DL to fill in.

Ramirez Traded Away - K-Tribe catcher Max Ramirez was traded to the Texas Ranger's Organization Friday for big league veteran Kenny Lofton. Ramirez was a Carolina League All-Star this season and also played in the Futures Game. Ramirez was fourth in the Carolina League in batting average with a .303 mark. Ramirez was third in the league in RBI with 62, second in on-base percentage (.418) and fourth in slugging (.505). Ramirez came to the Cleveland Indians Organization last season when he was traded from Atlanta for big league closer Bob Wickman. Kenny Lofton was batting .303 with a .380 on-base percentage, seven homers, three triples, 16 doubles, 21 stolen bases and 23 RBIs in 84 games this season entering Friday's action for the Rangers. He was on a one-year deal with the Rangers worth $6 million, and he hasn't played any other outfield position, other than center. For his 16-year career, which has included stints with 11 teams, Lofton has hit .299 with 130 homers, 620 stolen bases and 766 RBIs. He is a six-time All-Star, a four-time Gold Glove winner, and he is listed on the Top 100 Greatest Indians roster. The 620 steals is most among active players, and he holds the Indians' franchise record with 450.

Shutout City - The K-Tribe shutout Wilmington twice in the last three games of their four game series over the weekend. It was the K-Tribe's fifth and sixth shutouts of the season. Kinston held Wilmington to just seven total hits over the last three games (24 innings). Kinston left Wilmington with a 9-1 record at Frawley Stadium, the best season series record for a visiting team at Frawley stadium in the 15 year history of the Blue Rocks.
