Montgomery Biscuits News Release

HOOVER -- In a 6-2 loss, the Montgomery Biscuits' second night in Hoover followed the script set forth in the first.

A very good pitching performance was overshadowed by a great one, and though the game remained scoreless until the stretch, a multi-run inning by the Birmingham Barons proved to be enough for victory.

This time it was Montgomery's James Houser prividing the very good performance (six shutout innings) and Birmingham's Jack Egbert turning in the great on (sevent shutout innings, 12 strikeouts).

Houser struck out eight in his start, allowing just two walks and five singles and permitting no Barons baserunners beyond second base.

Egbert allowed only three singles and struck out the side in order twice. He encountered trouble only in his final inning, in which an error got Reid Brignac to third base with one out. But Egbert got a lineout and a groundout to end the threat.

The Barons scored their eventual game-winners in the seventh against three Biscuits relievers, of whom Evan Meek got the worst treatment. The two infield singles he allowed ended up scoring, sending him to his first loss.

The Biscuits used two more relievers in the following inning because a 49-minute rain delay forced Richard De Los Santos, who had loaded the bases with one out, to leave the game. Brett Wayne took over and walked home two runners and allowed a single to plate the other.

The Biscuits' only runs came while playing from behind. An eighth-inning Fernando Perez single and a ninth-inning Gaby Martinez sacrifice fly account for the lonely runs.

The Biscuits have lost four in a row and eight of their last nine. They have slipped to a season-high five games behind the division--leading Jacksonville Suns and trail the present series, 2-0.

The middle game of the set is Monday night, with Biscuits starter Chris Mason pitted against Birmingham's Ryan Wing. Gametime is 7:05 p.m.
