Dayton Dragons News Release

Peoria, IL - The Dayton Dragons wrapped up an eight game, nine day road trip in Peoria, Illinois Sunday afternoon with a matinee against the Peoria Chiefs. With a win, Dayton would win the series with the Chiefs and post a winning record on the trip at 5-3. The Dragons took a 5-2 lead to the bottom of the 10th inning and watched Peoria score four times in the bottom of the 10th to pull out a 6-5 win

The Chiefs used three straight one out hits off Dayton starter Daniel Guerrero (ND) in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Hit number three was an RBI single to right field by Ryne Malone scoring Russ Canzler from third base for a 1-0 Peoria lead. Canzler singled and was moved to third on a double to right by Clark Hardman.

Dayton was shutdown early on by Peoria starter Jose Pina (ND). Eddy Rodriguez picked up a single in the top of the third but the Chiefs right hander faced the minimum through four innings. Rodriguez was thrown out at second base to end the inning on the back side of a "strike 'em out, throw 'em out" double play. Logan Parker got the Dragons on the board in the fifth inning with a lead off homer to left. His sixth of the season tied the game up at 1-1.

After allowing the second inning run, Guerrero retired 11 straight Peoria hitters until a two out walk to Leon Johnson in the bottom of the fifth. Rodriguez threw out Johnson trying to steal second base to end the inning. Guerrero gave up the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo home run by Henry Blanco, a Chicago Cubs catcher on rehab with Peoria, to make the score 2-1.

Pina was lifted after 7.0 innings of one run, four hit baseball. The right hander struck out seven and walked one and left in line to pick up the win. Jose Ceda (ND) took over for Pina heading into the Dragons eighth inning. The right hander out of the pen could not throw strikes and walked the only two hitters he faced before giving way to closer Alex Maestri (ND). After Billy Rojo dropped down a perfect SAC bunt to move Carson Kainer to third and Rodriguez to second, Maestri gave up an RBI single to Drew Stubbs that tied the game at 2-2.

Heading to the Peoria eighth, Terrell Young (ND) replaced Guerrero who tossed 7.0 innings on the afternoon. Young pitched around a one out double as the Chiefs stranded two base runners. Dayton did not fare much better in the top of the ninth loading the bases with one down and not being able to plate a run.

Dayton snapped the 2-2 tie with three runs in the top of the tenth inning off Jayson Ruhlman (WP, 4-2). Rojo led the inning off the single to left and moved to second base when Ruhlman hit Stubbs with a pitch. Turner tripled home the pair for a 4-2 lead and would later score on a Francisco double to give Dayton a 5-2 lead.

Ramon Geronimo (LP, 5-3) came in with one down in the ninth and got the Dragons out of a mess but did not have the same results in the 10 th. The right hander gave up four runs as Peoria came all the way back to pick up the walk off win on Malone's single to right scoring Clark Hardman who doubled home the tying run moments earlier.

The Dragons open up an eight game home stand with a four game series versus the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Monday night at Fifth Third Field. 1410 ESPN Radio will carry the game live beginning with the Dragons Pre Game Show at 6:30 PM. Monday night's first pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. All Dragons games in 2007 are also streamed live on the internet at www.daytondragons.com via All In Broadcasting. RHP Jordan Smith (8-6, 3.39 ERA) gets the ball in the series opener for the Dragons, while Wisconsin counters with RHP Kyle Parker (3-8, 3.01 ERA).
