Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Clinton, IA - The Lansing Lugnuts survived two late rallies and plated a run in the ninth to take a 5-4 win over the Clinton LumberKings Saturday night at Alliant Energy Field.

With the score tied 4-4 in the ninth, Raul Barron stepped up with the bases loaded and lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that brought home Yuber Rodriguez to give Lansing the winning margin.

The two teams traded runs in the seventh after Clinton knotted it in the sixth. Lansing had a 3-1 lead before David Paisano scored the first run of the inning when he raced home from second base on a Barron error to cut the deficit to 3-2. Clinton then tied the game at 3-3 when John Whittleman drew a bases loaded walk.

The Lugnuts took a 2-0 lead by bursting out of the gates in the first. Scott Campbell led the game off with a single and scored when Sean Shoffit drilled a triple to the center field wall. Shoffit would come home on the same play as Clinton's second baseman Jose Vallejo sailed the relay throw into the LumberKings dugout.

Clinton plated their first run in the second when K.C. Herren's triple to right-center drove in Mauro Gomez to make it 3-1.

Ron Lowe (1-0) picked up the win for Lansing, throwing 2 2/3 innings of relief while allowing one run on two hits.

The Lugnuts and Clinton will wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
