Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis walked away with an exciting 1-0 win Thursday night at AutoZone Park thanks to Nick Stavinoha.
Stavinoha delivered in the bottom of the ninth with a single to right field to score Jarrett Hoffpauir from third base and give the Redbirds their second straight win. Three consecutive walks loaded the bases before Stavinoha's heroics. He had been mired in a 2-for-38 slump with just one RBI in his last 19 games but picked up two hits in the game.
Three Memphis pitchers combined to shut down the River Cats for the second game in a row. Redbirds starter Chris Narveson tossed 5.2 hitless innings before leaving with a knee injury in the sixth. Matt Ginter came on and did not allow a hit in his 1.1 innings of work. Gregorio Petit broke up the no-hit bid with a two-out single off Troy Cate in the eighth inning. Cate earned the win striking out four in his two innings of relief. Brad Ziegler took the loss for the River Cats with Jeffery Gray allowing Stavinoha's single.
Memphis will conclude their series with Sacramento tomorrow night. The game will be televised regionally on CSS-Southeast and Comcast SportsNet - West. Game time is slated for 7:10 p.m. The Redbirds will start Blake Hawksworth while the River Cats are scheduled to send Colby Lewis to the hill.
