Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - For the second straight night the Drive found themselves down early as the Charleston RiverDogs scored six times over the first three innings. In the end it was the RiverDogs ability to hit the long ball en route to a 13-8 victory at West End Field.
The Drive jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Jon Still singled home Josh Reddick in the bottom of the first, but then the hit parade began for both teams.
Felix Doubront ran into immediate trouble in the second, allowing a leadoff homer to Josue Calzado and another solo homer two batters later to Chris Odenreider. Charleston added four more runs off the southpaw an inning later.
For the second straight inning, the RiverDogs began with a leadoff homer, this time by Wilmer Pino. Seth Fortenberry, Kyle Anson, and Joe Muich each knocked in a run to round out Charleston's inning.
After the RiverDogs extended their lead with two more solo homers and a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth, the Drive began their comeback. Greenville was able to close the gap to 9-6 with four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
With two outs in the inning, both Josh Reddick and Lars Anderson delivered two, two-run doubles. The RiverDogs added another solo homer in the top of the eighth, but the Drive answered with two runs of their own. Kristopher Negron delivered an RBI-double and Chih-Hsien Chiang added an RBI-single.
However, the RiverDogs put the game away in the ninth, scoring three off Joshua Papelbon. With two outs Tom O'Brien knocked in two with a single and Wilmer Pino added another with a single.
