CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts flexed their offensive muscles, while Johnny Cueto and Justin Mallett combined to throw a four-hit shutouts on the mound, en route to winning their fourth straight contest in a 7-0 win over the Mississippi Braves in Thursday night action against the Mississippi Braves.
After three innings of shutout baseball on both sides, the Lookouts broke the ice in a big way in the bottom portion of the fourth frame. Luis Bolivar began the rally with a single and advanced to second on a Craig Tatum walk. Yesterday's hero, Michael Griffin, then nailed a single to left, plating Luis Bolivar. Marland Williams proceeded to a hit a towering shot over the AT&T Field scoreboard in left to give the Lookouts a 4-0 lead.
The Lookouts carried their offensive momentum into the fifth with three more runs. Enrique Cruz led off with a single. Caonabo Cosme followed with a double, advancing Cruz to third. Luis Bolivar, who came into the game batting .490 against the Braves this season, slugged a two-RBI double down the third base line. Marland Williams would eventually bring home Bolivar on a single to center, giving the Lookouts a 7-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Johnny Cueto improved to 4-1 by throwing six shutout innings, striking out seven, while yielding just two hits and one walk.
Justin Mallett preserved the shutout by completing the final three innings for the Lookouts. As a result, he was credited with his first save of the season.
The Lookouts and the Braves will play the series finale, tomorrow at 7:15 P.M. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Lookouts' souvenir batting helmet, courtesy of Blood Assurance and WRCB-TV Channel 3 Eyewitness News Then stick around, as after the excitement is over on the field, the Lookouts will feature their famous Fireworks at the conclusion of the game!
