TODAY'S OPPONENT:

The Portland Beavers are the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Last season, the Beavers finished third in the Pacific North with a record of 68-76.

VS. PORTLAND:

The teams split a 4-game series last season in Portland. The Beavers won the first two games and the Hawks won the final two games. The RedHawks hit .313 with three homers in four games and the pitching staff had a 4.76 ERA. Portland leads the all-time series 17-16.

TODAY'S GAME:

This is game 103 of the season, the third of 4 meetings between Oklahoma and Portland this season.

LAST GAME:

The RedHawks won for the seventh time in their last eight games, defeating the Beavers 3-1 last night. The Beavers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Brian Myrow's solo homer with two outs in the first inning. The RedHawks tied the game on Tug Hulett's solo homer with two outs in the third, making the score 1-1. Nelson Cruz gave the Hawks the lead for good, with a one-out solo homer in the fourth. Adam Fox added an RBI single, giving the RedHawks a 3-1 lead. Starter Alfredo Simon struggled with his command, allowing one run on five hits, two walks and a hit batter in three innings. Steve Rowe earned his fifth win of the season, pitching four scoreless innings of relief. Wes Littleton pitched the ninth for his second save of the season.

PITCHING MATCHUP:

Eric Hurley makes his sixth start of the year for the RedHawks. He lost his last start Saturday at Round Rock, giving up three unearned runs on five his in six innings. Hurley hasn't faced Portland in his career. Steve Watkins goes to the mound for the Beavers. Last season with New Orleans, Watkins beat the RedHawks June 24 at The Brick, throwing seven scoreless innings. Watkins pitched twice against the RedHawks in '04 as a member of the Beavers, picking up a win in one of two relief appearances.

BULLPEN GETS JOB DONE:

Rowe, A.J. Murray and Littleton combined to throw six scoreless innings of relief last night. For the third time this season, Rowe tied his own team-high for longest relief outing, pitching four scoreless innings. Murray recorded four strikeouts in one inning, and Littleton picked up the first RedHawk save since July 1. The bullpen hasn't allowed a run in the last three games as they have nine strikeouts in 10.0 innings.

HOT HULETT:

Hulett brings a current team-high 13-game hitting streak into tonight after going 2-for-4 with a double and a homer last night. He's hitting .341 through 21 games in July after hitting just .190 in 28 games during June. Hulett has at least one hit in 23 of his last 24 games, and his next hit will be his 100th of the season.

WHOA NELLIE:

Cruz has homered in back-to-back games after going 3-for-4 with a home run last night.He has at least one hit in 12 of his last 13 games. In the last 13 games, Cruz is hitting .385 with four home runs and 12 RBIs.

LEAGUE LEADERS: Mike Wood

leads the PCL with a 2.95 ERA. Freddy Guzman leads the league with 35 stolen bases. Botts leads the PCL with a .434 on-base percentage, he's tied for second with 34 doubles, tied for third with 51 extra-base hits and ninth with a .318 batting average.

COOLBAUGH MEMORIAL FUND:

The Oklahoma RedHawks and RedHawk wives will be hosting a raffle to raise money for the Memorial Fund for Mike Coolbaugh's family. The raffle will run Friday through Sunday with the prizes being awarded on Sunday at the end of the game. Featured items will include Redhawks team memorabilia, major league items including a prized autographed Sammy Sosa bat, and more. Winners of the items don't need to present to claim prize. Winners will be posted on the website Monday. In addition, the Redhawks will be accepting donations for the Memorial Fund throughout the ballpark.

DOT-DOT-DOT:

The RedHawks are 7-10 on Thursday this season...they're 11-10 in July...Kevin Mahar has a 6-game hitting streak...the RedHawks have outscored their opponents 40-8 in their last seven wins, with at least 10 hits in each win...the RedHawks won for the just the seventh time when scoring three runs or fewer in a game (7-30)...last night ended a 6-game streak where a RedHawk starter pitched through the sixth inning.
