Pitching: 2.21 ERA, 44 H, 21 R, 15 ER, 61.0 IP, 22 BB, 51 K, 3 HR

TODAY'S OPPONENT:

The Portland Beavers are the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Last season, the Beavers finished third in the Pacific North with a record of 68-76.

VS. PORTLAND:

The teams split a 4-game series last season in Portland. The Beavers won the first two games and the Hawks won the final two games. The RedHawks hit .313 with three homers in four games and the pitching staff had a 4.76 ERA. Portland leads the all-time series 17-14.

TODAY'S GAME:

This is game 101 of the season, the first of this series and the first of 4 meetings between Oklahoma and Portland this season. The RedHawks begin an 8-game homestand, with Portland and Tacoma.

RAINED OUT:

The RedHawks and Round Rock had the final game of their 4-game series rained out last night and it will not be made up this season.

ROSTER MOVES: John Rheinecker

was recalled by Texas yesterday, and Robinson Tejeda was optioned to Oklahoma.

LAST GAME:

The RedHawks won the third game of series with Round Rock, 5-1, Sunday night. The Hawks took a 1-0 lead on Guillermo Quiroz's RBI single in the top of the second. The Express answered back with a run of their own on back-to-back triples in the bottom of the second. The RedHawks took control of the game with four runs on four hits in the sixth inning, making the score 5-1. Quiroz led the way for the Hawks at the plate by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Starter Mike Wood earned his team-high eighth win of the season, allowing one run on four hits in eight innings.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Edinson Volquez

makes his second start of the season for the RedHawks. He won his first start Thursday at Memphis, allowing one run on one hit in seven innings. Volquez picked up a win last season July 27 at Portland by allowing one unearned run on four hits and 11 strikeouts in six innings. Roger Deago will pitch for the Beavers. Deago took the loss in the game Volquez pitched last season, allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings.

HAWKS FIND SUCCESS ON ROAD:

The RedHawks improved to 11-3 in their 14 road games. They have outscored their opponents 97-50 on the road in the last 14 games. The Hawks are hitting .298 with 20 homers in the last 14 road games. The pitching staff has a 3.00 ERA in during the same time as they've allowed more than three earned runs in a game only three times in the last 14 road games.

STARTERS EATING UP INNINGS:

The starters have made it through the sixth inning in 10 of the last 11 games. The only time they failed to get past the sixth inning was a spot start at Memphis last Tuesday. Dating back to the last homestand, Hawk starters are 4-2 with a 2.71 ERA with seven quality starts in their last 11 games. Wood had the fifth consecutive quality start for the RedHawks on Sunday.

HOT HULETT:

Hulett brings a current team-high 11-game hitting streak into tonight after going 2-for-4 with a run Sunday. He's hitting .338 through 19 games in July after hitting just .190 in 28 games during June. Hulett has at least one hit in 21 of his last 23 games.

HEATING UP AS A HAWK:

Victor Diaz is starting to heat up after going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI Sunday. He has at least one hit and one RBI in five of his last six games. Since rejoining the RedHawks on July 15, Diaz is hitting .281 with a homer and eight RBIs in eight games.

LEAGUE LEADERS:

Wood leads the PCL with a 2.95 ERA. Freddy Guzman leads the league with 35 stolen bases. Jason Botts leads the PCL with a .436 on-base percentage, he's tied for second with 34 doubles, third with 51 extra-base hits and seventh with a .319 batting average.

DOT-DOT-DOT:

The RedHawks are 6-7 on Tuesday this season and 19-7 in the first game of a series...they 9-10 in July after going 18-10 in June...The RedHawks are 15-19 against lefties...the Hawks have scored the first run in all eight games...The RedHawks led for 44 of 61 innings played during the last road trip...The RedHawks haven't committed an error in six straight games.
