Grizzlies Complete Sweep, Win Seventh Straight Game
July 24, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, CA - As the Fresno Grizzlies prepare for their eight-game road trip to Nashville and Memphis, the one thing they must not forget to pack is whatever has gotten them their current seven game winning streak.
With Monday's 4-0 win completing a four game sweep of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (53-49), the Grizzlies (54-49) also notched their seventh consecutive win during the finale of the eight game homestand.
The seven-game winning streak is a season-high for the Grizzlies, which surpasses the previous mark of six during a homestand May 29 - June 3, when the Grizzlies hosted Albuquerque and Round Rock.
Fresno has continued to make-up ground in the Pacific Coast League's Pacific South Division, as it has crawled back into a tie for second place with Tucson, just five games back of division-leading Sacramento.
Proof of the Grizzlies' breakout week came early Monday when the PCL announced Fresno's Scott McClain and Matt Kinney swept the league's Batter and Pitcher of the Week Awards, respectively. McClain batted .500 with five home runs and 14 RBIs for the week of July 16-22, while Kinney went 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA.
Monday's series finale victory over the Sky Sox saw Fresno toss their second consecutive shutout against the Sky Sox, as the Grizzlies' Matt Palmer earned his ninth win of the season, albeit in relief. Russ Ortiz made the start for Fresno, pitching four innings and allowing just three hits while striking out three Sky Sox batters.
Offensively for the Grizzlies, William Bergolla slammed his second home run of the season, while Clay Timpner, Tomas De La Rosa and Brian Horwitz each collected two hits in the game.
The Grizzlies will return home for the final month of the season on August 1st for an eight game homestand featuring the only visits of the year from Oklahoma and New Orleans. With only 16 home games remaining in 2007, Grizzlies fans can look forward to an action-packed promotional month as the Grizzlies fight for a playoff spot.
Tickets are available at the Chukchansi Park ticket office, over the phone at 559-320-TIXS, or online at www.fresnogrizzlies.com.
