Portland Denied by Fisher Cats

(Portland, ME) - Ryan Patterson snapped a 3-3 tie with a 2-run double in the fourth inning, leading the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 5-3 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Monday night at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs suffered their sixth straight loss to New Hampshire at Hadlock Field and are now tied for the second playoff spot with the Fisher Cats in the Northern Division.

Seth Overbey (2-0) worked four strong innings in relief, retiring 11 of 13 faced to earn the win for the Fisher Cats. Overbey relieved starter Yuskau Iriki in the fifth inning after a lead off walk to Jed Lowrie.

Chris Smith (3-6) threw 113 pitches but suffered the loss, yielding 12 hits and five runs in six and 1/3 innings. Chad Povich made his Double-A debut for Portland pitched two and 2/3 scoreless innings on two hits, one walk and one strikeout.

Jesse Carlson earned his third save of the season, working one scoreless inning and fanned Jeff Corsaletti with runners at first and second to end the game.

The Sea Dogs fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning but tied the game in the second on Bryan Pritz's two-run double with two outs. In the third inning, Corsaletti began the frame with a triple and scored on Jed Lowrie's sacrifice fly.

New Hampshire received three hits from Manny Mayorson, Aaron Mathews and David Smith. Smith homered to lead off the fourth inning, his third career homer against Chris Smith.

Andrew Pinckney snapped a 0-for-15 slump by going 2-for-4. Dusty Brown and Corey Keylor went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

The Sea Dogs continue their 3-game series with the Fisher Cats on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. LHP Andrew Dobies (3-2, 5.73) makes his 10th start of the season for Portland. LHP Jo Matumoto (1-1, 4.17) will get the starting nod for New Hampshire.

Notes...Chris Smith allowed a season-high 12 hits and suffered his second straight loss to New Hampshire...Jed Lowrie picked up his league-leading, 63rd walk of the season...New Hampshire is 6-2 at Hadlock Field but Portland is 9-5 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
