Charleston, WV (July 23, 2007) - Tim Bascom shut down the West Virginia Power with seven fantastic innings on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park as the Delmarva Shorebirds sent the Power to their sixth straight loss with a 6-1 victory.
The Shorebirds scored three runs in the top of the second inning to take an early lead. Victory Castillo, Danny Figueroa and Todd Davidson all ripped run scoring singles. Delmarva plated three more runs in the third inning. After Brae Wright struck out Brandon Snyder and Billy Rowell to begin the inning, Miguel Abreu hit a solo homerun and Victor Castillo doubled in a pair of runs.
The Power scored their only run on Brad Miller's solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was Miller's second of the year and his first at Appalachian Power Park. The Power had seven hits in the game and five came with two outs.
Tim Bascom (2-0) allowed one run on six hits and struck out seven over seven innings to get the victory, while Brae Wright (6-6) was tagged with the loss after surrendering six runs on nine hits over three innings. Dustin Lidyard, Jared Sutton and Travis Wendte combined to toss six scoreless innings of relief.
The Power fell to 63-37 overall and 15-17 in the second half, while the Shorebirds improved to 49-49 overall and 15-16 in the second half with the win. The Power have now lost six in a row. Brad Miller and Charlie Fermaint had two hits a piece for the Power.
The Power will finish the four game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds at Appalachian Power Park on Tuesday night. The Power will start right hander Alex Periard (5-2, 3.32) and the Shorebirds will counter with right hander Kyle Schmidt (3-8, 4.32). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
