Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA- The Binghamton Mets exploded for six runs in the fourth inning and cruised to a 10-2 victory over the Curve in Monday night's series opener from Blair County Ballpark.
Curve starter Dewon Brazelton held the B-Mets at bay for the first three innings, but the floodgates opened in the fourth. With one out, Mark Kiger singled and advanced to third on a single from Mike Carp. Kiger scored on an RBI single from Brett Harper to give Binghamton the lead, 1-0. Jamar Hill supplied a fourth consecutive hit, an RBI double to plate Carp, and Binghamton led, 2-0. The Curve intentionally walked J.E. Cruz to load the bases, but Ryan Coultas followed with a two-run singled to make it 4-0. A batter later, Miguel Negron completed the six-run outburst with another two-run single.
Jason Delaney got the Curve on the board, leading off the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to right-center field off of B-Mets starter Jose Sanchez.
Brazelton (3-3) returned in the fifth, and the trouble continued. Kiger again sparked the rally with a one-out single. Carp followed with a double to put runners at second and third with nobody out. The Curve again opted to load the bases with the intentional walk, but Hill followed with a run-scoring single to push the lead back to six runs. Cruz followed with a sacrifice fly to score Carp and push the lead to 8-1.
Brazelton took the loss for the Curve, allowing a season-high eight runs on ten hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Neil Walker drove in the second Curve run in the fourth, but Kiger capped the scoring with his third hit of the night, a two-run single off of reliever Jason Roach, in the sixth.
Sanchez (3-5) earned the win for Binghamton, permitting just two runs on six hits over six innings.
The loss dropped the Curve to 2-4 against the B-Mets this season. Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Luis Munoz (9-4, 3.52) will make the start for Altoona against RHP Kevin Mulvey (8-8, 3.12) for the B-Mets.
