Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves snapped a two-game slide on Monday night with a 4-2 win over the Trenton Thunder at Waterfront Park.

The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the first inning. Jason Jones retired the first two batters of the inning bringing Matt Joyce to the plate. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Joyce slammed an opposite-field home run, his 14th of the season, for a 1-0 Erie lead. The one-run lead was the first in the last three games for the ‘Wolves.

Erie extended the lead in the top of the second inning. Steve Torrealba drew a two out walk and Nick McIntyre singled to the gap in right center, putting runners on first and third for Pedro Cotto. Cotto hit a ground ball to first that was booted by Juan Miranda. Cotto would be safe on the error and Torrealba scored from third for a 2-0 advantage. Clete Thomas then doubled off the wall in left center, scoring Torrealba for a 3-0 SeaWolves lead.

Trenton got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Alberto Gonzalez and Noah Hall both singled for the first two hits of the game for Trenton. Miranda grounded into what looked to be a double play ball, however, on the play, the ‘Wolves got the out at second but an error on the throw to first allowed Gonzalez to score from third, cutting the Erie lead down to two a 3-1.

The SeaWolves went back up by four runs in the top of the sixth. Jeff Larish reached on a fielder's choice with one out. With two outs, Larish stole second for his fifth stolen bag of the season. Hollimon followed by lining a double down the right field line, plating Larish for a 4-1 Erie lead. The double for Hollimon snapped an 0-10 skid at the plate.

The Thunder added a second run in the bottom of the eighth against Anthony Tomey. Gonzalez doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Carson to close the gap to 4-2, but that's as close as the Thunder would get.

Alan Mills came into the game in the bottom of the ninth and retired the side in order picking up his 12th save in 12 opportunities.

Starter Jon Connolly (5-4) tossed six solid innings for Erie allowing a run on five hits. He walked one and struck out two. Connolly is now 2-1 since rejoining the ‘Wolves from Triple-A Toledo.

The win gives the SeaWolves their second season series victory is 2007 and their first ever season series win against Trenton.
