Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
FISHKILL, NY (July 18, 2007) - The State College Spikes defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades 6-5 Wednesday evening. Pitching effectively for the Spikes was left-handed starting pitcher, Tony Watson. Watson, who surrendered two earned over six innings, improved his record to 5-0.
Hudson Valley refused to concede victory, battling back from a 6th inning, three run deficit to pull within one run entering the final frame. State College never relinquished their marginal lead, however, as Spikes closer Ronald Uviedo retired the Renegades 1-2-3 in the 9th inning for his 6th save of the season.
Taking the loss for Hudson Valley was starter, Diego Echeverria. After Michael Ambrose singled through a drawn-in infield, Echeverria was relieved of his pitching duties, having surrendered four earned runs, and four hits over 5.1 innings pitched.
Renegades relievers Claudio Rodriguez and Ryan Zimmerman were spectacular over the remainder of the game, yielding no runs over the remaining 4.2 innings.
Hudson Valley left fielder Stephen Vogt entered tonight's action hitting .400 over his last five games. He continued to shine at the plate recording two hits while driving in one run.
State College will return to Hudson Valley tomorrow night for the series rubber-match. Renegades right-hander Josh Johnson (1-1) will take on Matt Foust (0-2). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M.
