Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY-A day after falling 10-2, the Louisville Bats could only muster three hits in a 11-0 loss to Durham on Wednesday night in front of 7,334 at Louisville Slugger Field.
Right fielder Chris Dickerson, second baseman Mark Bellhorn, and catcher Ryan Jorgensen were the only Louisville hitters on the night, each having a single.
The 11 runs for the Bulls gave them their first back-to-back double-digit games of the season. First baseman Chris Richard opened the scoring in the first inning with a one-run, ground rule double, and finished his evening 3-for-5 with a pair of runs, three doubles and two runs batted in.
Right fielder Justin Ruggiano smashed a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his 13th of the season. The Bulls capped the frame by adding two more, equaling their four-run output from the third inning.
Tom Shearn (4-8) gave up nine earned runs off 10 hits in 4.2 innings of work for the Bats, while striking out four. Reliever Marcus McBeth struck out three and gave up the final run in his 1.2 innings.
Bulls starter Mitch Talbot (7-7) allowed two hits and walked zero in eight innings. His six strikeouts were spread through six different hitters in the Bats lineup. Reliever Scott Dohmann allowed the only other hit in the ninth inning, but forced a double play to conclude the contest.
The Bats will look to avoid a series sweep on Thursday night in the final game of the homestand. RHP Richie Gardner (2-1, 4.43) for Louisville and RHP Jeff Niemann (9-5, 3.75) for Durham are the probable starters for the 7:05 p.m. start.
