Sounds To Honor Hawkins Family, Extreme Makeover Volunteers With Anniversary Concert
July 17, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Nashville Sounds News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Local recording artist Zach Simpson will be in concert with special guest Sara Evans on Tuesday, July 24 at Greer Stadium to celebrate the anniversary of last year's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project.
The concert will take place on the Purity stage just inside the main entrance of the ballpark prior to the Nashville Sounds' 7 p.m. game against Fresno.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will begin shortly thereafter.
Simpson, the headliner, was born in Central Oregon, where he starting writing and playing in bands at the age of 13. He possesses an individual style and sound inspired by a wide range of influences. Since becoming a musician, Simpson has strived to give each song a unique perspective of everyday people, places and situations and cater his sound to a universal audience. In his short career, he's opened for such acts as Diamond Rio, Molly Hatchet, Chris LeDoux, and Evans.
Evans first came to Nashville in 1991 to pursue a career in music. In 1995, a songwriter heard her on one of his demos and decided she should sing all of his songs, and she soon signed a record deal with RCA. Her debut album, Three Chords and the Truth, was a critical success, and her second release, No Place That Far, contained the song "Cryin' Game," which would become her first #1 hit. Since then, she has sold millions of albums around the world, had numerous #1 hit singles, and won several CMA and Academy of Country Music Awards.
The concert is an anniversary celebration of the building of a new home for the Hawkins family after a tornado destroyed their house on April 7, 2006. As the storm began to damage their house, Amy saved her children Jair and Cole's lives by shielding them from the falling debris with her body, and as a result of her injuries, she has been confined to a wheelchair since that day.
In recognition of her heroism, Capital Homes built a new house for the family over the span of three days between July 30 and August 3 of last year. Over 2,000 volunteers and 100 area businesses chipped in to help with the project.
The Hawkins family - Jared, Amy, and sons Jair and Cole - will be in attendance and will participate in the concert and on-field activities before and during the game.
Everyone is invited to attend. Tickets are $10 each with 30% of the proceeds benefiting the Brentwood Rotary and the Hendersonville Civitan.
