Hughes and Karstens To Return To Trenton

The Thunder have announced that NY Yankee RHP Phil Hughes is scheduled to start for the Thunder on Friday, July 13 and Wednesday, July 18 at Waterfront Park in Trenton. The Thunder also announced that it is likely that NY Yankee RHP Jeff Karstens will start for the Thunder on Tuesday, July 17.

Hughes was a member of the 2006 Thunder and has been on the disabled list with hamstring and ankle injuries. He has pitched in two games for the Yankees this season, going 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA. Hughes, the top rated prospect for the Yankees according to Baseball America, went 10-3 with a 2.25 ERA for the Thunder last season. Karstens was a member of the Thunder in 2005 and 2006 and has been disabled with a broken bone in his left leg. He has a 2-2 record and 4.79 ERA in 10 games for the Yankees this season. Karstens won a combined 18 games for the Thunder in 2005 and part of 2006.

Carson, Marquez and Horne Ready For Tonight's All-Star Game

While many baseball fans have been talking about the MLB All Star game - held July 10, 2007 in San Francisco - they probably have not noticed that the following night another gathering of All-Stars will take place 3,000 miles away. The Eastern League will be having its own Midsummer Classic in Norwich, Connecticut on July 11, and three Trenton Thunder players have been selected to play as members of the Northern Division team.

Talking Baseball Host Brings "Bat For The Cure" To Trenton on Friday On July 13, the Thunder are pleased to Welcome Ed Randall's Bat for the Cure. Randall, the long-time host of the popular radio show Talking Baseball will bring his Bat For The Cure 2007 Minor Leauge Baseball North American Tour to Trenton. The tour is a 501 c-3 charity dedicated to the proposition of raising awareness for and promoting early detection and improved treatment of prostate cancer and providing financial support for its cure. Mr. Randall will throw out a special first pitch before the game and be at the Bat for the Cure table on the main concourse throughout the game.

MLB's Last 30 Game Winner Coming To Trenton

From being the only 30-game winner in more than 70 years; to touring the country as a popular musician playing on national TV; to later becoming a media star to spending nine years in jail, Denny McLain has lived a bizarre and remarkable life.

McLain will visit Waterfront Park for the game on July 23 to promote his new book I Told You I Wasn't Perfect and to sign autographs for Thunder fans. Mr. McLain will sign from when the gates open at 6:00 pm through the first inning. Autographs are available for the following prices: $30 on a MLB ball, $25 on the Book, $20 on a Regular ball, $20 on the pictures we provide and $15 on other autograph items.

Jason Jones Named Pitcher of the Week

Thunder Pitcher Jason Jones became the fourth Trenton pitcher during 2007 to win POW honors from the Eastern League. Jones (7-4) picked up two victories this past week against Harrsiburg to earn the award.

The 6'5", 225 lb. hurler made a pair of starts for the Thunder last week and was 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA. In his first start of the week Jones gave up one run on six hits while striking out three batters and walking one in five innings of work to earn a victory against the Harrisburg Senators at Waterfront Park last Monday.

Thunder Pitching Staff Featured In NY Times

New York Times Yankees Beat Writer Tyler Kepner recently visited Trenton to find out first-hand how dominating Trenton pitching has been this season. The focus of the story is about the Yankees Pitching Prospects in Trenton and the rebuilding of the Yankees Minor League system.

The Thunder have set a new franchise record for in-game marriage proposals during a season as eleven couples have gotten engaged at Waterfront Park, more than any other year in the 14-year history of the franchise.

With the eleventh marriage proposal in 45 games this season taking place on Thursday, July 5, the Thunder have established an all-time high, as well as a perfect success rate. The men have combined for a 1.000 batting average with all eleven of them receiving a reply of "Yes" to the delight of thousands of Thunder fans.
