Johnson and Miles named Rogers Players of the Week: Clermont runner-up
July 11, 2007 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) BC Lions defensive lineman Brent Johnson is no stranger to Rogers Player of Week honours and he racked-up another one today as the reigning Outstanding Canadian and Outstanding Defensive Player picked up Canadian Player of the Week recognition for his efforts in Week 2 following the Lions 29-9 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos last Friday. Johnson recorded three defensive tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery in the win.
Barron Miles' partial block of a Sean Fleming punt in the second quarter propelled the Lions to a TD and a 16-6 lead and while it didn't officially register as a blocked punt it does mark consecutive games that Miles has made game-breaking plays - this one earning him the nod as Special Teams Player of the Week.
The CFL also announced that Lions slot back Jason Clermont was runner-up for Canadian Player of the Week. Clermont notched four receptions for 84 yards and a TD.
The next BC Lions home game is Thursday, July 19th at 7:30 pm versus the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BC Place - for tickets call 604-589-ROAR. For more information on the BC Lions Football Club, please visit our website at bclions.com.
