Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, June 29, 2007) - Chivas USA today announced the release of forward Matt Taylor.

"This move was made in anticipation of upcoming player transactions for Chivas USA," said Chivas USA CEO and General Manager Javier León. "We would like to thank Matt for his dedication to our club and wish him the best of luck for the future."

Taylor, 26, was originally selected by Chivas USA in the sixth round of the MLS Expansion Draft (November 19, 2004), from the Kansas City Wizards, where he played his rookie MLS campaign in 2004. In two and-a-half seasons at Chivas USA (2005-2007), Taylor played in 47 regular-season matches (starting 16), logging 1,786 minutes and registering 3 goals and 3 assists.

In a separate transaction, Chivas USA signed goalkeeper Justin Myers to a temporary contract, due to a case of 'extreme hardship', as stipulated by MLS's Player Rules and Regulations when a club has less than two available goalkeepers. Myers, 22, is a product of Cal Berkeley and a native of San Diego, California, where he attended Torrey Pines High School. He will serve as a back-up to Chivas USA netminder Preston Burpo, given the absence of Brad Guzan, currently on international duty with the U.S. National Team at the Copa América in Venezuela.

Finally, Chivas USA announced that forward Laurent Merlin has been added to the team's 18-player Senior Roster. Merlin, who was originally signed to a Developmental Contract on April, 12, 2007, takes the Senior Roster spot originally occupied by defender Jorge Barrera.
