MOBILE, AL - The BayBears won their fourth straight game Wednesday, shutting out West Tenn 4-0. Max Scherzer (1-1) picked up his first Double-A win, pitching six shutout innings, striking out a BayBears season-high 11 opposing batters. Matt Elliott and Mark Rosen combined to throw three scoreless innings to complete the game.
The BayBears first two runs came in the fourth inning, on a sacrifice fly by Chris Rahl and an RBI single by Cesar Nicolas. Ronnie Merrill's double in the seventh gave the BayBears a three-run lead, and Rahl's ground ball to first base with the bases loaded in the eighth gave the BayBears a 4-0 advantage.
The BayBears have tied their season high with four straight wins, and now have an even 5-5 record in the second half. West Tenn lost its fourth straight game, with two games remaining in the series.
